Developing the Training
As part of developing the training curriculum we were interested in a range of stakeholder views and their experiences with administrative data. We engaged with researchers, members of the public, data providers and regulators - all of this input ensured we developed a training programme relevant to UK researchers working with a wide range of UK public sector administrative data.
A huge thank you to those who completed the researcher survey and those who participated in focus groups and workshops over the last year!
We launched the survey last summer for UK researchers to complete to give us an idea of the types of data they work with, common challenges and areas where training is needed.
We spoke to four data providers to gain insights into what training and support they felt would benefit researchers to complement any resources their organisations already provide. We ran focus groups over the summer-autumn 2019 and use their thoughts and wisdom throughout the training.
We recruited members of the public to explore the public's perspective on research that uses administrative data and how these views will shape the development of our training content for researchers working with this type of data. Our first workshop was hosted in September 2019, the second in February 2020 and the views and opinions of our public representatives has helped the development of our public involvement module.
We follow ethical and legal procedures to protect your anonymity. All information given to us will be managed in strict confidence. All members of the study team and regulatory authorities are trained in data protection issues.
They are also bound by the terms of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679. The only people in Cardiff University who will have access to information that identifies you will be people who need to contact you regarding the study. Cardiff University will keep identifiable information about you securely, for up to 15 years after the study has finished. This is in line with Cardiff University policies.
